About Hypnotherapy
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is defined as a state of mind, enhanced by (although not exclusively) mental and physical relaxation, in which our subconscious is able to communicate more freely with our conscious mind. Hypnosis is the tool part of hypnotherapy. It is often described as being a state of deep relaxation or an altered state of mind. This state of mind may be brought about by oneself (self-hypnosis) or by a trained professional (hypnotherapist) in order to encourage beneficial change (hypnotherapy). It is a way of accessing our inner potential to enhance our lives.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is distinctive from other talking therapies in that it attempts to talk directly to the individual’s subconscious mind, usually while the individual is in a state of relaxation, in order to encourage beneficial change. It is a form of counselling using psychological techniques together with the state of hypnosis. It is perfectly safe, usually a very pleasurable experience and remarkably successful. Hypnotherapy is NOT what you see on television on entertainment shows.
What is NLP?
NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is to do with how people think, feel and behave and the way this affects their experiences and perceptions. Using NLP techniques can help to reorganise some of these perceptions and change the way we think and behave about certain areas within our lives. It can be used successfully in combination with hypnotherapy to enable beneficial changes to take place. NLP is about movement of thought processes, so when combined with hypnotherapy, it can be tremendously powerful.
What is transpersonal hypnotherapy?
Transpersonal hypnotherapy works from a very spiritual aspect so it is a blending of eastern and western spiritual beliefs with conventional hypnotherapy and is suitable for everyone and all kinds of issues, irrespective of religion. It makes the assumption that we are already constantly in a hypnotic or trance state and that much of what goes on in our lives is not what we think it is and we are not what we think that we are. Confused? It's quite something to get your head around but actually it makes perfect sense. All of our communication both internally (within our minds) and externally (what we do and what we say) is what creates our so-called reality.
Transpersonal hypnotherapy recognises that you are a pure spirit being in a physical body and that from the moment we are conceived in this world, our consciousness starts to absorb all the influences around us which form our egoic mind. However, we are still pure spiritual beings and it is our behaviour as a result of our ego that detracts from our spiritual side and so causes separation from the universal energy. It is behaviour which causes the issues and problems and limits our experiences in this lifetime, as with other lifetimes. From the moment we are conceived, we are subjected to other people's ideas, morals and boundaries and how we process this information has an effect on our own values and behaviours.
Unfortunately, some of what we learn, or how we store the information can serve to restrict us from really enjoying our experiences in this world and transpersonal hypnosis aims to allow our minds to reach beyond the boundaries of our ego in order to enjoy our lives to the full. The intention of it, then, is to get beyond self-limitations confined by ego and reach a sense of peace or just being.
When the transpersonal aspect is blended with conventional hypnotherapy, the results can be extremely effective and higher energies are utilised to enhance the healing mechanism, wherever possible leading to a permanent change rather than a temporary one.
