Reflexology

Reflexology is the ancient art of foot massage which originated in the Far East thousands of years ago.

It has increasingly become a popular form of complementary medicine and works on the theory that the human body comprises 10 zones and pressure points on the feet relate to the various organs of the body within designated zones.  It is about boosting the body's own healing levels and promoting relaxation.

How can reflexology help you?

The body has the ability to heal itself.  Illness, stress, injury and disease can cause the body to become in a state of imbalance leading to energy pathways being blocked and preventing the body from functioning normally or effectively. Reflexology is used to help restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and therefore encourage self-healing.

Who benefits from reflexology?

Reflexology treats the whole person and therefore most people will benefit from this treatment.  It does not treat symptoms of disease and cannot claim to cure.  The therapy can bring relief to a wide range of conditions, chronic or acute, and promotes a state of deep relaxation. It is safe, natural and an excellent way to assist in harmonising the body.

Treatment session

Most clients find the sensation pleasant and soothing and not ticklish as many assume, although some clients may experience some small discomfort in areas but this generally shows an imbalance which can be explained in more detail following your treatment.

If you have a specific condition to treat then ideally 1 or 2 sessions per week over 5 or 6 weeks is ideal to give your body a chance to really work on the issue.  If you just want maintenance of good health, then fortnightly or three weekly treatments are ideal.

Some people respond immediately and others take weeks, sometimes months.  Some people just like to have reflexology to experience a deep sensation of relaxation, especially after a busy day or week.  It is your choice.

Are there any after effects?

Everything will be explained when you book a treatment.  There are some after effects but they are only temporary and nothing to be concerned about.  You may experience headaches, hot flushes or frequent trips to the toilet within a few hours of the treatment.  This is merely an indication that your body is responding to treatment by eliminating toxins from your system and it is important that you drink plenty of water to flush them out.  Not all clients get this, however, and many feel very uplifted and full of energy afterwards.  Most clients will, however, benefit from a deep and satisfying night's sleep after a treatment.

Each treatment is between 45 minutes and 1 hour in duration.  The initial appointment will include taking a detailed lifestyle history followed by a shortened reflexology treatment session.  The subsequent sessions will provide longer reflexology treatments.

Each session at Lyndhurst or New Milton costs £35 - by appointment only.  Treatments at Westbourne cost £40.

Mobile visits are available in your own home, within a 15 minute drive of New Milton.  Normally this is practiced in a comfortable chair, sofa or bed.  There will be an additional fee to cover rising petrol costs.  Please call for further information.

I am a Full Member of the Association of Reflexologists (MAR) which was founded in 1984 to establish standards and to provide a network of qualified practitioners to which the public can refer with confidence.  I trained with the Central London School of Reflexology in 1996, qualified in 1997 and was one of the first reflexologists in London to practice in a conventional Medical Centre, treating a wide variety of cases, before moving down to the New Forest.
